Campus Plan

Plan outcome

The plan's development occurred in four phases. Canadian design firm DIALOG and its consulting team made regular visits to the VCC campuses to conduct research and meet with the college community and its partners.

BROADWAY CAMPUS

SYMBOLIC CIRCULATION

Central connection through the entire site improves permeability and provides opportunity for symbolic daylighting of China Creek as a wayfinding strategy.

MID-BLOCK CONNECTIONS

Mid-block connections frame future development options and improve site circulation.

CONNECTED SOCIAL SPACES

A strong connection of social spaces on campus strengthens the existing quality of the public realm, contributing to a sense of place and welcome on campus.

CREATING PRESENCE

VCC will have a strong presence on both Broadway and Great Northern Way. The main entrance will shift formally from Broadway to Great Northern.

A CENTRAL SPINE

To improve wayfinding, circulation, and social spaces, a clear, central spine will be created from the ground floor entrance on West Pender Street through to Dunsmuir Street.

MID-BLOCK CONNECTION

A pedestrianised covered internal mid-block connection will create animation between the north and south ends of the campus, connecting spaces internally and also serving as a connection between Cambie Street and Hamilton Street.

BUILDING RENEWAL

A plan that addresses the condition and age of existing buildings will inform the identification of development opportunities and create new academic and community partnerships.

TURNING “INSIDE OUT”

Increased permeability will showcase programming and VCC’s unique identity.
