Creative exhibition share migrant womens' experiences with Belonging and Exclusion in Canada

With the recent government announcement of almost 1.5 million newcomers to Canada expected by 2025, how can we welcome them? Join us at an exhibition that explores the feelings of Belonging and Exclusion.

The opening will be held in the VCC Broadway Event Space on Tuesday, November 15 from 11:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Please join us for refreshments and reflection.

Following the opening, the exhibition will remain in place until Friday, November 25.

This creative exhibition is the result of a Photovoice research project which asked approximately 40 migrant (forced and chosen) women about their experiences of Belonging and Exclusion in Canada. The exhibition of 50 photographs and quotes is a powerful learning experience that builds empathy among its audience. The voices of women who are not typically represented in the mainstream media are brought forward.

This Photovoice project was led by two faculty from the University of the Fraser Valley, and one faculty from Vancouver Community College. The exhibition is sponsored by the LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) Department with funding from the VCC Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
