Vancouver Community College (VCC) baking and culinary students who identify as BIPOC now have a chance to apply for a new award thanks to a partnership between the college and Ben's Original™.

VCC is one of four Canadian colleges, and the only college in B.C. to participate in the initiative from Ben's Original™. The Seat at the Table™ Fund is a scholarship program that “creates opportunities for students from under-represented and equity-deserving communities who aspire to build careers in the food industry.”

“We are thrilled to open this new award to applicable students and grateful for the generous contribution from Ben's Original™,” said Dennis Innes, VCC Dean, School of Hospitality, Food Studies, and Applied Business. “Awards like this acknowledge the importance of reducing financial barriers so that every student has an equal opportunity to realize their full potential.”

Qualified candidates must identify as BIPOC and demonstrate financial need to complete their education. Up to five $5,000 awards will be given out annually over the next two academic years, beginning with the Fall 2022 semester. Interested students can contact VCC’s Financial Aid department for application dates and process.
