Winter 2023 welcome from VCC president, Ajay Patel

VCC president Ajay Patel

Dear VCC community,

I am excited to welcome all new students joining us at Vancouver Community College (VCC) this winter and spring. And a very warm welcome back to all of our returning students, faculty, and staff. I hope everyone had a safe and restful holiday season.

VCC is located on the traditional and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and səlilwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples who have been stewards of this land from time immemorial.

At VCC, we are committed to creating a culture of belonging for everyone. In 2023, we will continue the important work of decolonization and Indigenization throughout the college — in how we teach, learn and support our students, employees, and staff.

In the coming year, I would like to encourage each of you to be curious about VCC and look for opportunities to discover something new about the college.

There are numerous ways you can engage with us: our Welcome Back to VCC page offers a good overview of what you can expect as a new or returning student, and Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or LinkedIn are great ways for everyone to stay connected with the latest good news happening on campus.

JANUARY EVENTS

On January 17 and 18, the VCC Students’ Union and Student Services will host Welcome Days at the Broadway and Downtown campuses. Please join us for in-person games, prizes and snacks. It is a great opportunity to learn about the various services available to support your learning at VCC.

January 22 marks the Lunar New Year for many in our college community. I look forward to celebrating the Year of the Rabbit and hope the auspiciousness of the gentle and kind rabbit brings everyone good fortune. Please join us at our Broadway and Downtown campuses on January 23 for Lunar New Year celebrations hosted by VCC Students’ Union and International Education.

2023 will be a big year for VCC, and our Strategic Innovation Plan will continue to provide a blueprint and guide for our college’s future in the months ahead.

For faculty and staff, I look forward to seeing each of you on campus and hearing more about your work, your ideas, and your successes over the coming months.

I wish everyone a happy and healthy New Year, and wish you all the best for 2023.
