Working at VCC
Human Resources Mission Statement
Through collaboration with employees, we provide the services and leadership for employees to succeed and the College to be competitive. We fulfill four distinct roles: strategic partner, administrative expert, employee champion and change agent.
Benefits and Contracts
The terms of employment for all employees are available below and in the Employee Benefits Booklet. All VCC employees are also governed by College Policies and the Code of Ethics.
Faculty
Instructors, librarians, counsellors, and department heads are also covered by the Faculty Association Collective Agreement. For more information contact your Human Resources Advisor.
Support Staff
Support staff are also covered by the CUPE Support Staff Collective Agreement. For more information contact your Human Resources Advisor.
All plans that are provided through an insurer are also governed by insurance contracts. The College supports input from the Benefits Committee which consists of representatives from each of the employee groups at the college: Administrators, VCCFA and CUPE. This committee meets regularly with our benefits consultants so that we may keep current with our policies and maximize the resources available to us.
An Employee Benefits Booklet is available from the Human Resources office. It provides an overview of the plans and most of the information that you will need to know about the health and welfare benefits available to employees. Details of coverage may change from time to time so it is important that you check with Human Resources if you have any questions. You may also contact your Faculty Association or CUPE representative.
Services for New Employees
We provide a range of services to help you learn about our campuses, your new co-workers and the college community.
Orientation Guide
The Orientation Guide provides useful information to help you navigate your first months at VCC. It puts information on the college's policies, its departments, schools and services at your finger tips. The list of acronyms and of employee perks are well worth reading. The guide is available from the Human Resources office on the 5th Floor of the Broadway Campus.
New Employee Seminars and Campus Tours
Orientation seminars are regularly scheduled for our new employees to help them get acquainted with the College and the people who work here. These include tours of both VCC's Downtown and Broadway campuses.
For information on new employee orientations or to request a printed copy of the guide contact Human Resources.
Workshops and Events
One of the goals of the College is to provide all employees with ongoing opportunities for professional and personal growth.
Professional development workshops for faculty and staff, covering computer software to project and people management skills, are offered by Human Resources and the School of Instructor Education.
Our ongoing wellness education program provides a holistic approach to the well-being of employees with offerings such as seminars on RRSPs, yoga classes and a wellness incentive program. A wellness committee with members from each of the employee groups (faculty, support staff and administration) meet every month and works very hard to organize interesting events and activities.
