American Sign Language (ASL) and Deaf studies

The info session on Feb. 8, 2012 has been postponed to Thursday, February 16. On this day, the ASL & Deaf studies department is also hosting an open house from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. All are welcome.

Talk with your hands.  Learn a new language.  Become an ally to the Deaf community.

Expand your career opportunities and communicate better with Deaf friends, family members, clientele and colleagues. VCC's American Sign Language and Deaf studies program provides you with a solid foundation in ASL and Deaf awareness for use in the workplace, everyday life or wherever you encounter Deaf people.

Sign language interpreting is a career in great demand and ASL skills are a unique asset in the social work, education, counselling, health services and community support fields.  As communication technology advances and access for Deaf people becomes more widespread, career opportunities are growing for interpreters.

Join us at an information session to meet instructors, learn about the program, discuss career opportunities, and learn how to apply. This session will be held at VCC's Broadway campus, 1155 East Broadway at Glen Drive, one block west of Clark Drive and across from VCC/Clark SkyTrain station.

Get your career cooking! VCC's culinary arts program is where the next generation of great chefs get their start.

Attend an information session and tour and see why VCC is Canada's No. 1 culinary school, training more chefs than any other school in the country. You'll see our state-of-the-art kitchens and talk to students in this hands-on program, which runs VCC's well-known fine dining restaurant, JJ's Dining Room.

We've trained many of the region's top chefs and our faculty are recognized in some of world's biggest competitions. VCC is home to Culinary Youth Team Canada, a team of chefs who will compete at the Junior Culinary Olympics in Germany. The team flew to Ottawa in June 2011 to cook a Canadian-inspired feast during William and Kate's first royal tour of Canada!

The access for CDAs program is specifically designed to provide CDAs an alternative option for completing year one of dental hygiene studies while continuing to work part-time.

Digital graphic design

Faculty from the digital graphic design certificate program invite you to an informative open house and guided tour of the VCC design lab. Faculty will be available to answer questions, show samples of past and present student work and more.

Digital graphic design is a full-time, nine-month program with intakes each September. The application deadline is June 7, 2012.

Graduates have gained employment in design firms, advertising agencies, print houses, service bureaus, architectural firms, communications industries, public and private companies as well as freelance contracting. Students can also build a solid portfolio for the purpose of future competition and admission into degree-granting art and design institutes.

The MasterValuer progam in jewellery appraisal is recognized as one of the premier appraisal training programs in the world.

Become a gem and jewellery appraiser or improve and enhance your appraisal skills through this comprehensive program of valuation studies.

This program is part of VCC's Continuing Studies gemmology program.

Prerequisites: must hold a recognized gemmological diploma.

Volunteer for ESL Homefront

Volunteer for VCC's Homefront learning program and gain experience and valuable tutoring skills.

Join us at the upcoming information session to learn how you can become a volunteer. The homefront program tutors English as a second language (ESL) one-on-one in students' homes.

The program provides volunteers with a short ESL tutor training course. Tutors are then matched with adult ESL learners in Vancouver and Burnaby who are unable to attend existing ESL classes because of family or health reasons.

This information session will be held at the Broadway campus, 1155 East Broadway, one block west of Clark Drive and across from VCC/Clark Skytrain station.
