Adult Upgrading (including High School courses) - Class Based
Upgrade your English, mathematics or science skills with these in-class courses. The English department instructors teach courses that can improve reading, writing, speaking and analytical skills and help to prepare students for college and technical programs. A range of mathematic courses are offered in this program, while the science department offers biology, chemistry and physics studies. Science students are taught using the standard scientific method to help prepare them for studies in professional and technical programs. Check with a faculty advisor to see if you need to take an assessment test to determine which programs are suitable for your skill level.

Program Description
Courses are offered at the Grade 10 (Intermediate), Grade 11 (Advanced) and Grade 12 (Provincial) levels for students wishing to earn credit or obtain academic prerequisites leading to:
- High school completion
- The BC Adult Graduation Diploma at http://bced.gov.bc.ca/adult_graduation
Students can complete prerequisites:
- For institutions - e.g. BCIT, Langara, etc. OR
- Prepare for entry into other VCC programs (e.g. Pharmacy Technician and Practical Nursing) OR
- Entrance into academic, career, or technical programs
Class-based courses are offered in three departments:
- ENGLISH, SOCIAL SCIENCES AND HUMANITIES: http://upgrading.vcc.ca/humanities

Courses are offered in instructor-led classes on a term basis. For most grade level equivalencies, two half courses are required.

INSTRUCTION
Instruction in most courses is based on a four-month semester, with classes either in the day or in the evening. Regular attendance is essential. Arrangements can be made with instructors for shift workers to alternate between day and evening classes. Please check the registration timetable above.

General
VCC welcomes applications from Canadian citizens, permanent residents and international students.

Convention refugees as designated by the federal government; Foreign live-in caregivers; Individuals with work permits valid for at least one year, covering the duration of studies; or those with Approval in Principle letters from Citizenship and Immigration Canada; Legal dependents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents (certain conditions apply); Diplomats and their direct dependents; International exchange students. Students are expected to produce transcripts or previous school records at the time of application and/or registration. Those students whose documents are unavailable may be required to take the appropriate assessments. It is important to realize that the assessments are NOT examinations.
