Food Service Careers (Adult Special Education)
This nine month program prepares students with a disability to work in the food service industry in the area of kitchen preparation. The program offers basic skill training while establishing effective employee behaviours that are necessary for success as an entry-level worker. The program consists of approximately 26 weeks of classroom/kitchen training and 12 weeks of supervised community work experiences matched to the student's interests and abilities.
Graduates are prepared to enter into competitive employment in the food service industry.

Admission Requirements
General
VCC welcomes applications from Canadian citizens and permanent residents.
Exceptions

Convention refugees as designated by the federal government; Foreign live-in caregivers; Individuals with work permits valid for at least one year, covering the duration of studies; or those with Approval in Principle letters from Citizenship and Immigration Canada; Legal dependents of Canadian citizens or permanent residents (certain conditions apply); Diplomats and their direct dependents; VCC will require proof of citizenship, residency, diplomatic or refugee status. As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to
educating adult learners, applicants should be 18 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.

- No special needs such as toileting, uncontrolled seizures or severe behavioural problems
- No behaviours or emotional problems that would significantly impair learning
- Ability to work in a demanding and busy work environment under stress or pressure
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to work flexible hours (early morning and late evenings) and weekend shifts
