Deaf and Hard of Hearing – American Sign Language (ASL) and English Upgrading courses

The Deaf and Hard of Hearing Department (DHH) offers an American Sign Language (ASL) course for Deaf and hard of hearing adult learners who wish to develop ASL as their first language, an additional language, or in order to be able to access and benefit from classes, services, and information that are provided in ASL.

DHH also offers a wide range of English Upgrading courses for Deaf and hard of hearing adult learners.  The students receive direct instruction in ASL.

Both DHH’s ASL and English Upgrading classes meet Monday through Thursday.  Students have the option to attend full-time (20 hours per week) or part-time (morning only or afternoon only – 10 hours per week for each).  The classes are scheduled from September until the end of January, and from February to the end of June.  To complete all course requirements, a student is expected to attend either the ASL or English Upgrading course for a minimum of 10 months.
