This certificate program is designed to provide a flexible environment for students who are blind or visually impaired. Students are prepared for employment in entry-level computing positions or for further study at college or university.

This program provides students with the computing skills to go on to further training or employment. Students study towards obtaining employment in an office as a word processor/transcriptionist. The program is designed so that students can study part-time or full-time. All computing stations are equipped with JAWS For Windows or ZoomText adaptive software.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will have acquired the skills, knowledge and attitudes to:
Students enrolled full-time will have to complete 12 months of training (3 semesters). Students may study part-time but will take longer to complete their program. The program is open for ten months each year and is closed in July and August. All semesters are 4 months in length.
Evaluation of Student Learning
Student’s progress is evaluated through a variety of assignments, tests and examinations as indicated on each course outline. Students can expect to be evaluated on their performance on practical assignments, special projects, written and oral presentations, and tests on both the theoretical and practical aspects of course content. A certificate of completion is granted to students who maintain a 70% average in all of the courses.

As Vancouver Community College is a post-secondary institution committed to educating adult learners, applicants should be 16 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school.

*Note: Any student required to take the Adult Basic Education Assessment must achieve: ABE 60 Reading 52 Grammar 0991 Writing Applicants presenting foreign documents equivalent to Grade 12, whose first language is other than English, must complete an English Language Assessment and achieve results equivalent to English 12.
