Skills/Compétences Canada (SCC) is happy to be heading back to Vancouver in 2022 for the Skills Canada National Competition (SCNC), which will be hosted partly in person for the first time since 2019 due to the pandemic. This year, the post-secondary and the Team Canada Selection Category Competitions will be held at the Vancouver Convention Centre on May 26 and 27. These two categories include more than 300 competitors from all regions of Canada who will participate in over 35 skilled trade and technology competitions. The secondary competition will be held virtually. This category includes more than 200 competitors from all regions from across the country who will compete in 45 skilled trade and technology competitions.
New this year, check out SCC’s YouTube channel to see the event livestream! Watch opening and closing ceremonies, onsite competitors from different skill areas, highlights from the virtual competition, interviews, and more!
The winners in all the Skill Areas and categories will be announced at the Closing Ceremony.
This event is the only national, multi-trade and technology competition for students and apprentices in the country. By providing a forum where young Canadians can compete at the national level, SCNC provides hands-on work experience related to skilled trade and technology careers.
Onsite Post-Secondary Competition
The competitions for post-secondary competitors will be held onsite, on May 26 and 27, from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Virtual Secondary Competition
The competitions for secondary students will be held virtually, and will be highlighted onsite at the venue and through the livestream. The start times will depend on the Skill Area and time zones. Look at the specific Skill Area documents for details under the competition documents tab. These documents will be posted by April 15th.
Onsite WorldSkills Team Canada Selection Category Competition
SCNC Vancouver 2022 represents a qualifying year to compete at WorldSkills Shanghai 2022.
As SCC could not host an in-person event in 2021, the members of WorldSkills Team Canada 2022 will be selected at SCNC 2022 where the WorldSkills Team Canada Selection Event will be hosted. This competition will be held concurrently during SCNC, and competitors may have the opportunity to compete in the Selection Event for the 27 Skill Areas that Canada will participate in during WorldSkills Shanghai 2022. The winner in each of these Skill Areas will be named to WorldSkills Team Canada 2022 and actively train to compete in Shanghai for the title of world champion in their respective Skill Area.
