VCC defends title as Best Professional Culinary School

Readers of The Georgia Straight have once again voted Vancouver Community College (VCC) as "Best Professional Culinary School" in the Golden Plates 2023 awards.

With award-winning and respected industry chefs as instructors, culinary arts students learn the latest gastronomy skills using the state-of-the-art facility equipment while refining their time management skills in the kitchen.

Creativity and the art of plating are taught with as much care as front-of-house service, such as taking orders and serving food to guests. Dining outlets are student-run to replicate a real-life restaurant experience while offering affordable prices to the public.

At one of VCC's most popular events at the Downtown campus JJ's Restaurant, the Chef's Table Dinner series led by renowned chef Hamid Salimian, students prepare a fixed five-course gourmet menu designed using modern techniques such as sous vide, ultrasonic treatment, and liquid nitrogen.

Combined with opportunities to participate in other prestigious events and competitions throughout the year, – including Flourish Gala, Yes! Chef, and Skills Canada – graduates of the VCC Culinary Arts program leave with a mastered set of job-ready skills as the province looks to fill nearly 28,000 new jobs in the culinary and hospitality industries over the next ten years.

Vancouver was recently added to the Michelin Guide's list last year, and VCC students will now have the chance to intern or work in internationally-recognized environments once they graduate.
