Vancouver Community College (VCC) is pleased to announce upcoming leadership changes to its Board of Directors, with Jeffrey Yu stepping into the role of Chair and Synthia Kloot appointed as Vice-Chair.

Jeffrey Yu has served on the VCC Board of Governors since July 2021 and as Vice-Chair since late 2024. During his time on the Board, he has provided steady leadership in governance, financial oversight, and long-term planning, helping support the college through an important period of transition and strategic progress.

Jeffrey brings significant experience in board governance, fiduciary oversight, and organizational stewardship. Across his board and executive leadership roles, he has developed strong expertise in finance, accountability, and strategic decision-making. He has also helped guide major capital and community infrastructure initiatives, including the development of new care homes and housing projects, with a focus on responsible growth, long-term sustainability, and community impact.

In addition to his service at VCC, Jeffrey is President of the Board of Directors at New Vista. His leadership experience spans complex, mission-driven organizations, where he has helped align strategy, resources, and governance to support growth and long-term community benefit.

Jeffrey brings to the Chair role a thoughtful, community-minded approach to governance, along with extensive experience in finance, capital planning, and board leadership. His steady and collaborative leadership will help guide the Board as VCC continues to grow, serve students, and plan for the future.

Synthia Kloot, newly elected as Vice-Chair, is a strategic and inclusive leader with a strong track record in driving operational efficiency across multiple industries including law, real estate, and IT. Known for her collaborative approach, she has led the development and implementation of roles and systems aligned with organisational strategy, and brings a focus on partnership, innovation, and results to the Board’s work.

The college extends its sincere thanks to Mahin Rashid for her exceptional service as Board Chair. During her tenure, Mahin provided steady leadership, compassion, and clarity as VCC navigated an unprecedented and challenging period in the post-secondary sector. Her contributions have helped guide the college through significant change while keeping the needs of students and the community at the forefront.

“It was a privilege to serve alongside a community so deeply focused on students and committed to living out its values with integrity. I’m excited to see what the future holds for VCC” says Mahin.

Mahin will be stepping down from her role as Chair and we wish her continued success as she joins the Board of Directors at SkilledTrades BC. We are grateful for her leadership and lasting contributions to VCC.

VCC looks forward to the continued leadership of Jeffrey Yu and Synthia Kloot as the Board supports the college in advancing its mission and priorities.
