Weekend wine course at VCC

Have you ever wanted to increase your knowledge of wine grapes and their regions, expand your palette, and learn how to describe, store, and sip wine the correct way?

Vancouver Community College (VCC) is thrilled to once again partner with Statera Academy to offer a weekend certification in Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET) Level 1.

This fantastic intro course teaches students: 

  • How to taste and describe wines
  • How to pair food and wine
  • The characteristics of the classic grape varieties
  • Grape growing, terroir and winemaking
  • Storage and service
  • Champagne & Port
  • Tips on buying wine

The lessons are hosted over two Saturdays (Nov 22 and Dec 6, 10 a.m. - 2p.m.) at the VCC Downtown Campus and costs $449. Students can expect a hands-on introduction and will get to experience 14 different wine samples throughout the weekend. A WSET certificate and lapel pin will be handed out upon completion.

VCC Outstanding Alum Tim Ellison and Statera Academy Founder and President Keith Nicholson are teaching the course, and proceeds will support the VCC Hospitality Management program.
