VCC's Outstanding Alumni Awards are designed to celebrate the career and community achievements of our graduates and supporters. These annual awards provide an opportunity to honour the quality and expertise of VCC's alumni and friends.

Nominations for the 2027 Outstanding Alumni Awards will open soon! All nominations received by March 1 will be considered for the 2027 awards. 

Nominations are kept on file and brought forward for consideration for three years following the original submission date, with the option to withdraw at any time.

Our 2026 Recipients

Congratulations to our most recent Outstanding Alumni Award recipients! These are the latest in a long line of VCC alumni that have made significant contributions to their industries and communities.

Honourees representing four categories were celebrated at an on-campus reception on Tuesday, May 26 2026. Each recipient is an outstanding ambassador for VCC, distinguishing themselves with unique stories of success, inspiration, and dedication

Tyler Duncan

Career Success

Congratulations to Tyler Duncan, recipient of the 2026 Career Success Award at the Outstanding Alumni Awards.

A graduate of VCC’s Music program, Tyler has built an exceptional international career as a baritone, performing on some of the world’s most renowned stages. He has appeared in numerous productions at the Metropolitan Opera in New York and has performed with leading orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, among many others.

In addition to his performance career, Tyler has shared his expertise as a faculty member at Bard College at Annandale-on-Hudson. His artistry, dedication, and global impact continue to inspire the next generation of musicians.

Chef Helen Orimaco‑Pumatong

Community Contribution

Congratulations to Chef Helen Orimaco‑Pumatong, recipient of the 2026 Community Contribution Award at the Outstanding Alumni Awards.

As a Hospitality Management Instructor at VCC, Helen is known for her dedication to student success and her commitment to community engagement. She regularly recruits and mentors students to volunteer at events, helping them gain valuable hands-on experience and build connections within the industry.

Through her generosity, mentorship, and leadership, Helen creates meaningful opportunities that support students in launching their careers and strengthening their sense of community.

Dr. Cheryl Ward

Community Contribution

Congratulations to Dr. Cheryl Ward, recipient of the 2026 Community Contribution Award at the Outstanding Alumni Awards.

Dr. Cheryl Ward, Kwakwaka’wakw from the ‘Namgis First Nation, is a leader in advancing Indigenous education, cultural safety, and reconciliation. Through her work, she has developed and delivered impactful training programs that challenge anti-Indigenous racism and foster meaningful dialogue and understanding.

From the widely recognized San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training to VCC’s Addressing Anti-Indigenous Racism in Adult Learning Environments program, Cheryl’s work continues to shape more inclusive and informed communities.

Santana Walker

Changemaker

Congratulations to Santana Walker, recipient of the 2026 Changemaker Award at the Outstanding Alumni Awards.

As the owner of Revive “Wa áynexwi7” Day Spa, Santana is an artist and entrepreneur whose work blends culture, creativity, and community. Through her innovative nail art, she has brought Coast Salish formline design into contemporary aesthetics, creating space for cultural expression and connection.

Committed to mentorship and empowerment, Santana has supported and inspired young Indigenous individuals to explore creative paths and build meaningful careers. Her work continues to elevate both art and community across North America.

Minakshi Bagai

Honorary Alumna

Congratulations to Minakshi Bagai, recipient of the 2026 Honorary Alumna Award at the Outstanding Alumni Awards.

As Executive Director of Community Services at SOURCES Community Resource Centres, Minakshi has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and families across British Columbia. Her leadership helps deliver critical programs in housing, employment, legal services, and community support.

Through strong partnerships, including with VCC, Minakshi has helped create meaningful training and employment pathways for learners. Her commitment to service, collaboration, and community impact continues to make a lasting difference.
