Dance Composition 1 (DNCE 2113)

This course builds on the work established in Introduction to Improvisation. Students explore elements of Dance Composition through the perspectives of Contact Improvisation, Physical Initiation, Spatial Intent/Relationships, Time, Phrasing and Thematic Exploration. Students are expected to create a solo, duet or trio and an ensemble pieces. Journaling is heavily emphasized as an important element of the compositional process. There is an introduction to the use of props, set pieces, voice and text in dance. Prerequisite: Intro to Improvisation 2 This course is part of the full-time Dance Program.
