This course provides students with a thorough training in advanced hairstyling techniques and services including the use of professional tools and equipment, effective communication and mentoring, and custom cutting and texturizing techniques. Topics include removal of facial hair using a straight razor, styling up-dos and hair finishing, chemical relaxing and smoothing, advanced colour applications, and colour correction. These technical skills are complemented by instruction in fundamental business practices, preparing students for success in a dynamic and evolving industry.

Students train in classrooms and a state-of-the-art salon at VCC's Downtown campus, with ample opportunity to practice their skills and to demonstrate their knowledge. Upon completion, apprentices return to the industry with an increased, comprehensive skill set. To be eligible to write the Interprovincial Red Seal exam at the end of the course, students must have an active apprenticeship with SkilledTradesBC, which requires an employer sponsor.
