All international students attending Vancouver Community College for a period longer than six months must have a valid Canadian Study Permit from Immigration, Refugees andCitizenship Canada (IRCC). Getting a permit can take several months due to long processing times, so be sure to begin the process as soon as you can.

  1. Apply for Study Permit: Use your Letter of Acceptance (LOA) and Provincial Attestation Letter (PAL) to apply early for your Study Permit and Co-op (practicum) work permit if your program requires a practicum (check Box #24 on your LOA). Refer to Immigration, Refugees andCitizenship Canada (IRCC) for requirements, processing times, and whether you also need a TRV or eTA. Review the attached Study Permit Application Checklist to submit a strong application.
  2. Meet Any Conditions of Admission: If you are conditionally admitted, submit proof once you have met all conditions by the deadline in your LOA (Box # 25) or request to defer your admission before the deadline. If you cannot meet the deadlines and wish to withdraw instead, the non-refundable fees apply. Check the non-refundable fees and refund policy for details. Once you receive your unconditional Letter of Acceptance (LOA), you can use your LOA and the previously issued PAL to submit your study permit application.
  3. Request a New PAL: If your study permit application is refused, you cannot use the same PAL and must get a new PAL to re-apply for a study permit. Contact VCC within 3 weeks of the refusal letter issuance date if you wish to request a new PAL. Our office will review your case to determine eligibility for a second PAL; approval is not guaranteed and depends on meeting VCC’s PAL re-issuance criteria.
  4. Send Proof of Study Permit Approval: Email your approved Study Permit or IRCC Port of Entry Letter to ieadmissions@vcc.ca by the deadline in your LOA (Box #28). Without this, your seat may not be guaranteed. If your Study Permit is in process or not approved by this date, you may request a deferral of admission to the next available intake.
  5. Admission Deferrals: Deferred admission is subject to the availability of the program and may be granted for a maximum of one year. For more information, review our deferral eligibility requirements and deadlines.
  6. After Accepting Your OfferTuition deposits are non-transferable. Contact us by email at ieadmissions@vcc.ca if you are planning to change programs.
  7. Prepare Your Original Educational Documents: Bring all original admission documents with you to Canada — VCC may request them anytime.
